Impressions
Nestled in the heart of Antakya, our hotel offers an ideal base for those with a spirit of adventure and an affinity for cultural exploration. Just a stone's throw away lies the Ulu Mosque, a stunning example of early Islamic architecture. Walking the short distance to this landmark, I was struck by the mosque’s intricate stone-work and serene atmosphere. The hum of the local community, combined with the tranquil ambiance of the mosque, provided a perfect introduction to the rich, cultural tapestry of the region. The striking design features a blend of Byzantine and Islamic influences, setting the tone for a day filled with historical discoveries.
Venturing a bit further, I found myself drawn to the enchanting streets of the Old City of Antakya. Just a brisk walk from the hotel, the narrow alleys lined with vibrant bazaars and the aroma of spice wafting through the air created a sensory feast. Beyond the market stalls, I stumbled upon the charming Vakifli Village, known for its picturesque landscapes and traditional lifestyle. A friendly local even invited me to witness the artisanal production methods in action! This village, recognized as the last Armenian village in Turkey, added a unique layer of history to my Antakya experience, making it clear that active recreation here extends beyond the physical realm into the delightful realms of culture and tradition.
Rounding off the day, Great Antakya Park became my oasis for leisure and active pursuits. Easily accessible from the hotel, I engaged in a leisurely stroll amidst the lush greenery and vibrant flower beds, and even joined some locals for an impromptu game of soccer on the park’s open fields. As I took in the stunning views of the surrounding hillsides, I reflected on how my encounters with landmarks such as the Habibi Neccar Mosque and Antakya Archaeological Museum had enriched my understanding of history and community spirit. Each landmark had not just been a point of interest but a testament to the lively interactions that define Antakya, transforming my visit into a multifaceted adventure filled with meaningful connections and discoveries.
